FUD Health Centre Expanded To Hand Deliveries, Maternal Emergency

The Director of the University Health Centre, Federal University Dutse (FUD). Dr Aliyu Pate, has said that the Centre has been expanded and fully equipped to handle deliveries and maternal emergencies, describing the expansion as a major milestone in improving maternal and child healthcare for both the University and surrounding communities.

Speaking during an interview with FUD
Newsletter, Dr. Pate explained that the new
service was introduced to address a longstanding gap in maternal healthcare within the institution.

According to him, pregnant women who attended antenatal care at the University Health Centre previously had to be referred to other hospitals for delivery services, creating inconvenience for expectant mothers and their families.

“This initiative is aimed at serving members of the University community as well as neighbouring communities. Women used to receive antenatal care here, but we had to refer them elsewhere for delivery services. With the commencement of this service, that challenge has been addressed,” he said.

Dr. Pate noted that the development will significantly improve healthcare delivery by enabling the Health Centre to provide comprehensive maternal and child healthcare services, adding that this will go a long way in improving healthcare services because the Centre can now offer complete maternal and childcare, from antenatal care through delivery and the postnatal period, ” he stated.

He revealed that the Centre has modern obstetric theatre equipment as well as immediate neonatal resuscitation equipment to ensure the safety of both mothers and newborn babies.

On the readiness of the facility, Dr. Pate expressed confidence in the competence of the healthcare personnel available at the Centre.

“We are fully prepared for the service. We have qualified nurses and midwives who can effectively manage maternity cases, while our medical officers are available to intervene whenever the need arises,” he explained.
