    Application Fee And Important Date

Application forms are sold online only, and here’s what you need to know:

    • Application fee: ₦12,000 (twelve thousand naira), non-refundable
    • Payment method: Remita platform, payable at any bank nationwide into the Federal University Dutse account
    • Sales of forms commence: Monday, 3 August 2026

The university hasn’t published a closing date for form sales in this newsletter, so don’t assume you have unlimited time. Confirm the closing date directly through http://sps.fud.edu.ng before you plan your application timeline.

    Entry Requirements

The newsletter directs all applicants to log in to http://sps.fud.edu.ng for the full, programme-specific entry requirements. Since PhD, Master’s, Professional Master’s, and PGD programmes typically carry different minimum qualifications (for example, a Master’s degree is usually required before PhD admission, while a first degree is usually the baseline for PGD and most Master’s programmes), don’t guess your eligibility based on general assumptions.

Before you pay for a form, visit the portal and check the specific requirements listed for your chosen programme.

A quick note for PhD and postgraduate applicants generally: postgraduate admission in Nigeria doesn’t work with JAMB-style cut-off marks. Your eligibility is based on your first degree class, relevant Master’s qualification (where required), and any additional criteria set by the specific department. So if you’re used to thinking in terms of “cut-off marks” from your undergraduate days, that concept doesn’t apply here.

    How To Apply: Step-By-Step

Here’s exactly how the application process works, based on the official steps published by the College of Postgraduate Studies.

Step 1: Visit the application portal Go to http://sps.fud.edu.ng/apply.

Step 2: Create an account or log in If you already have an account, log in with your registered email and password. If you’re new, click “Sign Up Now” to create an account using a valid email address and password.

Step 3: Access your dashboard Once logged in, you’ll land on your application dashboard. This is your main hub for the entire process.

Step 4: Click “Apply Now” This should be accessible from the side navigation on the dashboard.

Step 5: Select your programme Choose the specific programme you’re applying for. A confirmation text will show you the appropriate application fee for that programme. Double-check this before proceeding.

Step 6: Proceed to payment Once you’re sure of your selection, click “Proceed to Payment.”

Step 7: Generate your Remita Reference (RRR) number You’ll be given two payment options:

    • Pay at any designated bank using the RRR, or
    • Pay online using your card details directly on the portal.

Step 8: Print your payment receipt After a successful payment, log back into your dashboard and print your application payment receipt. Keep this safe — it’s your proof of payment.

Step 9: Complete your application Provide your O’Level and A’Level qualifications, add any relevant publications (if applicable to your programme), and upload all necessary documents. Take your time here and make sure every detail is accurate.

Step 10: Review before submitting Go through everything you’ve entered one more time before submitting.

Step 11: Submit and print your acknowledgement slip Once you’re confident everything is correct, submit your application and print your Application Acknowledgement Slip. This slip confirms that your application has been successfully submitted.

    Don’t Forget Your Transcript

One detail that trips up a lot of postgraduate applicants: your application isn’t complete until your transcript has been sent in separately by your previous institution.

Make sure your academic transcript(s) are forwarded directly to pgtranscript@fud.edu.ng. Your school’s exams and records office usually handles this, so it’s worth following up with them early rather than waiting until the last minute — transcript requests can take longer than expected at some institutions.

You can also visit http://sps.fud.edu.ng to view the list of successful candidates after the admission exercise is concluded.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply for more than one programme? The newsletter doesn’t state this explicitly. Confirm with the College of Postgraduate Studies through pghelp@fud.edu.ng before attempting to apply for multiple programmes.

Is the ₦12,000 fee refundable if I’m not admitted? No. The fee is clearly stated as non-refundable, so only apply once you’re sure of your eligibility and genuinely interested in the programme.

What if my transcript doesn’t arrive before the deadline? Follow up with your previous institution as early as possible. Since no specific transcript deadline is mentioned in the newsletter, contact pghelp@fud.edu.ng for clarification on how this affects your application.

Where can I check the specific entry requirements for my programme? Log in to http://sps.fud.edu.ng directly — that’s where the detailed, programme-specific entry requirements are listed.

Who do I contact if I get stuck during the application? Send an email to pghelp@fud.edu.ng, or call 08033084979, 07058596466, or 07034570075.

    Final Thoughts

Postgraduate admission is a process, not a single event, and FUD has laid out a fairly clear path this session: check your programme’s requirements, pay through Remita, complete your application carefully, and don’t forget your transcript. Rushing any one of those steps is usually where applicants run into avoidable delays.

If you’re serious about this programme, start early. Give yourself enough time to sort out your transcript, gather your documents, and go through the application without last-minute pressure.
