First, an important clarification: ATBU postgraduate admission does not use a “cut-off mark”

Cut-off marks belong to JAMB and Post-UTME. They apply to undergraduate admission, where your UTME score and Post-UTME performance are combined into an aggregate.

Postgraduate admission works differently. ATBU’s School of Postgraduate Studies does not screen candidates using a JAMB-style cut-off mark. Instead, eligibility is based on your first degree classification, your CGPA, and in some cases, your years of relevant work experience. If you’ve seen a website promising an “ATBU postgraduate cut-off mark for 2026/2027,” treat that claim with caution. We could not verify any such figure from ATBU’s official postgraduate admissions channels, and we won’t publish a number we can’t confirm.

What we can confirm, from ATBU’s official School of Postgraduate Studies portal, is the actual admission requirement structure, the application window, and the application process. That’s what this guide focuses on.

    ATBU postgraduate programmes on offer

ATBU’s postgraduate school runs full-time and part-time programmes across several faculties, including:

    • Faculty of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology
    • Faculty of Engineering and Engineering Technology
    • Faculty of Computing
    • Faculty of Environmental Technology
    • Faculty of Management Sciences
    • Faculty of Medical Sciences
    • Faculty of Science
    • Faculty of Technology Education

Across these faculties, you can apply for:

    • Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)
    • Master of Science (M.Sc.)
    • Master of Technology (M.Tech.)
    • Master of Engineering (M.Eng.)
    • Master of Tech. Education (M.Tech. Ed)
    • Master of Business Administration (MBA)
    • Master of Health Management (MHM)
    • Master of Accounting and Finance (MAFS)
    • Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

ATBU also runs an international M.Sc. in Embedded Artificial Intelligence, co-funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme, in collaboration with universities in Germany, Sweden, and Austria. If your background is in engineering, physical sciences, ICT, agriculture, energy, or medicine, this is worth a look on the portal.

    2026/2027 application dates

According to ATBU’s School of Postgraduate Studies, the sale of online application forms for PGD, Master’s, and Ph.D. programmes for the 2026/2027 academic session commenced on Monday, 13th July 2026, and closes on Tuesday, 13th October 2026.

Don’t wait until the closing date to start your application. Late applications are rarely entertained, and rushing through a postgraduate form increases your chances of making a mistake that costs you your admission slot.

How much is the ATBU postgraduate application form?

ATBU’s postgraduate application fee has typically ranged between ₦10,000 and ₦11,000 in recent admission cycles. We don’t have an official figure confirmed for the 2026/2027 session at the time of writing, so don’t rely on any number you see elsewhere, including this one. The exact fee will show up on the payment page once you start your application on the official portal. Verify it there before you pay.

    ATBU postgraduate admission requirements

Here’s where the real screening happens, since there’s no cut-off mark to worry about.

    Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)

    • A credit pass in English Language and Mathematics at O’ Level (WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB), meeting general matriculation requirements.
    • A first degree from ATBU or another recognised university, with at least a Third Class Honours.
    • HND holders with at least a Lower Credit from a recognised institution.
    • Other qualifications combined with relevant field experience may be considered.

    Master’s Degree

    • A credit pass in English Language and Mathematics at O’ Level.
    • A first degree from ATBU with at least Second Class Honours (Lower Division).
    • A university honours degree with a CGPA of 3.00 and above (on a 5.00 scale), or a CGPA of 2.40–2.99 combined with at least three years of relevant postgraduation experience.
    • A Third Class Honours degree combined with at least five years of relevant postgraduation experience.
    • A Postgraduate Diploma from ATBU or another recognised university, passed at credit level.
    • An unclassified degree with an average grade of C or above.
    • An HND with at least a credit pass, plus a Postgraduate Diploma passed at credit level.
    • Some candidates may be required to sit a qualifying examination before or during their programme.

    Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

    • A credit pass in English Language and Mathematics at O’ Level.
    • A Master’s degree from ATBU in a field relevant to the proposed area of study.
    • A Master’s degree from another recognised university with a CGPA of at least 3.50 (on a 5.00 scale).
    • Some candidates may need to pass a qualifying examination or complete a probationary period of up to 12 months.

If your CGPA sits just below one of these thresholds, don’t assume you’re automatically disqualified. Departments sometimes exercise discretion, especially where relevant work experience makes up the gap. It’s worth reaching out to your intended department directly to ask before you pay for the form.

Documents you’ll need before you start

Gather these before you begin the online application, so you’re not scrambling halfway through:

    • A recent, clear passport photograph on a plain background (JPEG format, not more than 150kb).
    • Your academic transcripts. You’ll need to arrange for your previous institution to send a hard copy directly to the Head of Department of your proposed programme. Without a valid transcript, your application will not be considered, no matter how strong your other documents are.
    • Your NYSC discharge certificate or exemption certificate. Applicants without one of these should not apply for PGD or Master’s programmes.
    • For Ph.D. applicants only: a pre-proposal or synopsis, uploaded online, with a hard copy also sent by post to your intended Head of Department.
    • A valid, active phone number and email address. ATBU will use these for every piece of correspondence about your application, so don’t use a number you’re about to change.

How to apply for ATBU postgraduate admission

    Step 1: Activate your account

Go to the official portal at pgatbu.admissions.cloud, click on “New Application,” and enter your name and a valid phone number. Use a number you’ll keep using throughout the admission process.

    Step 2: Log in

Your phone number doubles as both your username and your initial password. Log in to reach your welcome page.

Step 3: Pay the application fee

Confirm your details, then choose a payment method to complete your fee payment before the system lets you proceed to the form itself.

    Step 4: Choose your programme

Select your intended programme from the list of courses available under your faculty. Double-check that the course you want is actually listed, since not every programme runs every session.

Step 5: Enter your educational qualifications

Fill in your academic history accurately. Remember, your transcript still needs to reach your department separately by post, so this step alone doesn’t complete your application.

Step 6: Upload your passport photograph

Make sure it meets the size and format requirements. A blurry or oversized photo is a small thing that can hold up an otherwise strong application.

    Step 7: Submit your application

Review everything carefully before clicking submit. Once submitted, you cannot edit your information, so this is your last chance to catch errors.

    Step 8: Print your application

After submission, print your application page for your records and for physical screening if required.

    After you’ve applied

Once admission decisions are out, ATBU releases its postgraduate admission list through the same portal. If you’re offered a place, you’ll then move to the registration portal to complete your course registration and pay tuition. Keep an eye on your email and phone for updates, since that’s how ATBU communicates decisions.

    Common mistakes to avoid

    • Applying without your NYSC certificate ready. If you haven’t completed NYSC and don’t have an exemption certificate, hold off applying for PGD or Master’s programmes until you do.
    • Assuming your transcript request happens automatically. It doesn’t. You have to personally contact your previous institution to send it.
    • Submitting before double-checking your entries. You cannot edit your form after submission.
    • Waiting until October to start. Application portals can slow down or experience technical issues closer to deadline day. Applying early gives you room to fix problems.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Does ATBU postgraduate admission have a cut-off mark like JAMB?

No. ATBU postgraduate admission is based on your degree classification, CGPA, and in some cases, relevant work experience, not a JAMB-style cut-off mark.

Can I apply without my NYSC discharge certificate?

For PGD and Master’s programmes, no. Applicants without an NYSC discharge or exemption certificate are advised not to apply.

Is the Ph.D. form available all year round?

Yes, Ph.D. applications at ATBU are typically open all year, unlike PGD and Master’s forms, which follow the stated application window.

What happens if my CGPA is slightly below the stated requirement?

You may still be considered if you have relevant postgraduation work experience, depending on the specific requirement for your intended programme. Contact the relevant department to confirm before applying.

    Final thoughts

Getting into an ATBU postgraduate programme starts with getting your documents and eligibility details right before you ever touch the application form. There’s no cut-off mark to chase here. What matters is your degree classification, your CGPA, your transcript, and your NYSC status. Sort those out first, apply early, and you’ll avoid the last-minute scramble that trips up a lot of applicants every session.
